Exploring the Essential Features of “Pharmacology in the Older Adult – Eric Christianson – PESI”
Older adults are a unique subset of patients that required customization of medications. In this session, we will take a deep dive into issues in geriatric pharmacology. Eric will explore the physiological differences of the older adult, the perils of polypharmacy and the prescription cascade, BEERS criteria, deprescribing, and other topics that are important in understanding medications in the older adult. Also included will be information about drug interactions, including over the counter medications, high risk medications, and high risk drug-disease interactions.

Eric Christianson, PharmD, BCGP, BCPS is a board certified PharmD, board certified in geriatrics and pharmacotherapy, an Amazon best-selling author, podcaster, and national speaker. Author of Meded101 Guide to Nursing Pharmacology, Perils of Polypharmacy, and Meded101 Guide to Drug Food Interactions, he is well known for his expertise and passion. Eric found his calling in geriatrics and medication management, and for years has worked as a consultant pharmacist for long-term care and assisted living facilities as well as working with patients and families doing medication therapy management.
