Deeply Holistic: A Guide to Intuitive Self-Care: Know Your Body, Live Consciously, and Nurture Yo ur Spirit
by Pip Waller (Author)
Structured like an anatomy book, this is a definitive self-care guide for anyone who wants to take care of their whole person—body, mind, and spirit
This user-friendly guide gives straightforward and practical advice to anyone who wants a holistic approach to taking care of themselves naturally. Following the traditional framework of an anatomy book that explains each body system chapter-by-chapter, Pip Waller—an experienced practitioner and teacher—provides fundamental information and tips about exercise, diet, supplements, understanding and caring for your emotional and mental health, naturopathic principles from various traditions, and simple yet effective ways of working with spiritual energy.
Based on the premise that an underlying vital force—which needs to be in balance for health to be fully present—animates all life, this book is designed to support and promote our inherent tendency toward wholeness and equilibrium. Each chapter includes fun recipes to enhance health and well-being.
Review
“Pip Waller addresses some of the most important questions raised in modern herbal practice. Unlike biomedicine, we approach the body by systems because this is what is suited to a nature-based, holistic approach. Holism doesn’t look at the molecular lesion first, but sees it as the end result. Holism also starts with self-care and proceeds to professional care. Pip Waller addresses both levels of proficiency in a systems-based model, ably following up on her earlier book, Holistic Anatomy. I heartily recommend.”
—Matthew Wood, author of The Book of Herbal Wisdom and The Earthwise Herbal
“Deeply Holistic is an incredible resource. Pip writes with a gentle wisdom that infuses the pages with her deep knowledge in a most accessible way. A great book for anyone wanting to understand the workings of the body more fully and discover ways in which they can care for their own body, mind, and spirit more holistically.”
—Rachel Corby, author of Rewild Yourself and The Medicine Garden
“What a feat! [Waller] writes such a warm, comprehensive, and contemporary guide to living healthily in the widest sense, embracing a wonderfully insightful and compassionate view of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual selves. I thoroughly recommend this book to accompany anyone on a journey to health and self-healing.”
—Anne McIntyre, fellow of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, member of the Ayurvedic Practitioners’ Association, and author of The Ayurveda Bible
About the Author
Pip Waller is an experienced medical herbalist and plant spirit medicine healer, writer and teacher. She lives in North Wales UK, in a small town on a beautiful river, surrounded by magical hills. She began her work as a holistic healthcare professional in 1987 and has been in continuous practice ever since. Waller is qualified in herbal medicine (joining the National Institute of Medical Herbalists in1989 after a four year training) and Plant Spirit Medicine (2005). She is also trained in therapeutic massage (since 1987), Reiki (1994,1995 and 2000), and some shamanic techniques (1998).
She has taught anatomy, physiology and pathology to students of natural medicine since 1991 with great success. Her teaching style, which is informal yet hugely informative, alternative yet vigorous, translates well to the written format it appears in in this book. This is Pip’s first book, being published first in the UK in November 2008.
She has a fabulous son who is fourteen and is a very interesting character indeed.
Her book THE DOMESTIC ALCHEMIST-501HERBAL RECIPES FOR HOME, HEALTH & HAPPINESS came out in 2015. This was a lot of work but also great fun to write, being packed with interesting and inspiring recipes from many contributors around the world.
The same book is out in the USA since march 2015 with a different title: THE HERBAL HANDBOOK FOR HOME & HEALTH.
Her latest book Deeply Holistic: A Guide to Intuitive Self-Care–Know Your Body, Live Consciously, and Nurture Your Spirit came out 9 Jan 2018. This one is replete with ideas and wisdom to inspire us to care for ourselves more effectively. It is her favourite book so far.
Having said that she is currently working on a book protect called TOUCHED BY NATURE- Plant Spirit Medicine Journeys with co-author Lucy Wells, and this is shaping up to be a very delightful work. the book will be published April 2019 by Aeon books, a new UK herbal book publishers.
another book RADICAL WHOLISM -ADDRESSING THE DISCONNECT IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY is taking a lot of chewing over as it is a very in-depth work and can’t be written to a deadline. She is considering publishing this one as essays on the web, as part of her online vlog which is in the pipeline.
Waller is the author of two books: Holistic Anatomy: An Integrative Guide to the Human Body (2010), which came out of her many years of teaching anatomy to students of holistic medicine and The Herbal Handbook of Home and Health (2015), a book of 501 plant based recipes for everything from medicines and personal care products to green cleaning products, foods, drinks, and string (yes really, string!).
