Chronically anxious clients continually scan their world for potential catastrophes that they feel incapable of facing. Participants will learn a set of therapeutic strategies—physiological, cognitive and behavioral—for treating worries, based on the latest research. These will help clients face unneeded worries head-on and dispatch with them rather than being consumed by them or trying to avoid them.
Educational Objectives:
- Distinguish helpful worries (signals) from intrusive worries (noise).
- Clarify the specific skills of worry exposure.
- List 4 methods for generating alternative perspectives.
Faculty
Reid Wilson, Ph.D, is a licensed psychologist who directs the Anxiety Disorders Treatment Center. He is also Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is an international expert in the treatment of anxiety disorders, with books translated into nine languages.
