Dr. Erickson had the creative ability to utilize what clients brought to therapy. In essence, he created a brand new therapy for each client he saw. He was a master at improvisation, yet his brilliance adhered to certain rules and structure. This workshop will provide opportunities for therapists to learn improvisational skills, to learn assessment, and to choose an intervention strategy to match the client’s needs. The format will encourage audience participation in improvising.
Educational Objectives:
- To describe the role of improvisation in therapy.
- To describe two improvisational exercises that will assist both client and therapist to take a more playful and creative perspective in therapy session.
Faculty
Stephen Lankton, MSW, DAHB, trained under Milton H. Erickson, M.D. from 1975 to 1979, and his efforts at promoting and interpreting Ericksonβs approach to hypnosis and therapy at the highest academic levels resulted in the inclusion of chapters in several scholarly publications edited by other luminaries in the field. He is a LCSW psychotherapist in a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, Lankton conducts workshops internationally (24 countries).
