Exploring the Essential Features of “Swimming in Air Fall Workshop OCT 2024 – Bruce Frantzis & Craig Barnes”
New Students Welcome!
Made popular through the writings of Cheng Man Ching, βSwimming in Airβ or βSwimming on Landβ is a fundamental component of Tai Chi Chuan that is seldom mentioned and rarely taught in a comprehensive manner. Achieving this feeling in movement, however, requires deeper Neigong foundations that arrive at the culmination of your practice. In this first of possibly more seminars, Master Bruce Frantzis and Senior Instructor Craig Barnes will go through the major systems of the body, show how they are accessed in Daoist Neigong, and teach how to integrate them into internal martial arts forms. Specifically, the course will step by step go deeper and deeper into the body, working with muscle, fascia, ligaments, tendons, and blood among others.
Master Frantzis will show how to apply the practice of Sung to soften and release internal tensions in each of these body layers. The culmination of this process will be to use these body systems to wake up, integrate with, and strengthen the etheric body. This will train a type of movement that becomes Swimming in Air. This practice is essential for getting full health benefit out of your practice. It also can lead to improved fighting ability and seemingly mysterious push hands abilities that rely more on connection, relaxation, and the mind than on brute external muscular force. Swimming in Air is also an important, key step to opening up the system to the possibility of directly using the body as a support for meditation.
Releasing Stagnant Qi and Improving Circulation
A major physical problem of the body is the accumulation of stagnant qi in the body. This can negatively affect mobility, health, and longevity. Tai Chi, and especially the neigong components that will be taught during this course, move the qi and blood throughout the body. Learning and practicing this will improve the circulation of both qi and blood.
What You Will Learn
The first part of attaining Swimming in Air is getting the muscles, tendons, ligaments, internal organs, spine, and brain activated and coordinated. It is through these Neigong components one can eventually achieve βSwimming in Airβ where everything inside of you connects to your etheric field. In this seminar, Master Bruce Frantzis and Senior Instructor Craig Barnes will explain more advanced ways of doing Tai Chi while going through the different systems of the body:
- Muscles β relax the body and create a relaxed strength
- Tendons and Ligaments
- Fascia and deeper body tissues
- Blood β increase circulation and enhance every major way that blood moves throughout the body
- Releasing the joints of the body
Many of the techniques within Tai Chi are taught by demonstrating them on another human being and saying, βThis is what it is.β Now although that may be what it is, this method doesnβt tell you how you can train to acquire it. Watching a film does not teach you how to make a film. The focus of this workshop will not be so much on how well Bruce can βSwim in Airβ, it will be to teach you the process for which you can do it yourself, and that is the difference between teaching and demonstrating.
Great for Beginners and Advanced Practitioners:
If you are new to Tai Chi, we will teach you an easy-to-learn simple form called Tai Chi Circling Hands which you will be able to use during the course. This will be taught in a preparation session with Senior Instructor Craig Barnes that will be available to watch online immediately after buying the course.
For those who know Tai Chi, the emphasis of this course will be to apply the deeper components of Neigong within the Tai Chi form.
